Media formats

We recommend publishing open and easily accessible media formats such as MPEG-4 video and MP3 audio. These are the most accessible formats today and allow to you to the compress the file without necessarily compromising on quality.

Video file format

For video publishing with Swinburne Commons or on the web (retain your original high quality files):

  • Format: MPEG4 (.mp4 or .m4v)
  • Size: The native resolution of the recording or post-production e.g. 1920 x 1080i (HD), 720 x 540(SD)
  • Codec Type: H.264
  • Average data rate: Final files size are not to exceed 2GB e.g. 3.2Mbps/5mins, 533Kbps/30mins, 266Kbps/60mins
  • AAC encoder quality: high
  • Activate "progressive download," "fast start," or "use streaming mode"

Audio file format

For audio publishing with Swinburne Commons or on the web:

  • Format: MPEG3 (.mp3)
  • Average data rate: Up to 256 Kbps
  • Output Sample Rate: 48 kHz
